As the winningest coach in program history, he led the Hurricanes to their first-ever Final Four appearance in 2023, an Elite Eight in 2022, and multiple ACC championships, including regular season titles in 2013 and 2023 and the program’s first ACC Tournament title in 2013. A multiple National Coach of the Year honoree, Larrañaga ranks among the top winning coaches in Division I history with more than 700 career victories.\nBeyond the wins, Larrañaga is widely recognized for his leadership, culture-building, and ability to develop teams that consistently exceed expectations. His players and programs are known for discipline, resilience, and strong team chemistry—qualities that have defined his coaching philosophy across decades.\nPrior to Miami, he led George Mason to a historic Final Four run in 2006, one of the most memorable underdog stories in college basketball, and built successful programs at Bowling Green and American International. A Providence College graduate, Larrañaga was a standout player, team captain, and later drafted by the Detroit Pistons.\nOff the court, he is a devoted family man. Jim and his wife, Liz, have two sons and four grandchildren.
